Speed, reflexes and strength

Racket sport where two or 4 players hit a rubber ball making it bounce on the front wall of the court (frontis). It is practiced on a wooden floor covered with four smooth walls that are usually painted white or made from transparent glass.

The goal of this game is to hit the ball trying to rebound this at the front higher than the metal band so that the opponent is unable to return successfully. The ball can bounce off the walls the number of times to be and in any order, provided that it always hit the front wall, but only hit the ground once it has touched the front, not before.

The player who draws is the one who can score points, the opponent must win a game to be eligible to serve, in the U.S. both can earn points. Each game can accumulate 15 points and the parties reach five games.

Squash is considered one of the exhausting and fastest sports, due to the cardiovascular demands required to hit a ball that reaches speeds up to 210 km/h. It is now struggling to get into the Olympics, although it is known that has not been accepted as a sport in the 2016 Games and the 2012 London came within two votes of being admitted.


Like squash, Squash background date back to about year 1148 when the French played "le Paume" which later would become the Jeu de Paume, better known as squash.

In the early XIXth century, the obsession with rackets games trasppased the walls of the Fleet Prison in London, whose prisoners created a new variety of the sport. These, mainly debtors, exercise by hitting a ball with a racket against the walls, that was how was created game of "Rackets". In some strange way the game went to the College Harror in England, where students having no Rackets ball in good condition played with a punctured, they soon discovered that the ball when flatten against the wall with great impact produced a set of higher speed and blows which required more physical effort, as well as speed of response. This was a massive approval and the year of 1830 was born as such Squash.

Squash was officially declared as a sport in 1864, the same year in which constructed the first 4 fields in the world. With no international standardization, the Squash was divided into two variants, Squash ball "soft", which was played in England with tennis 21 feet wide, and Squash-ball "hard", practiced in courts of 18,5 feet wide in North America. Both courts had the same length (32 feet) so the Squash was not so concerned when a minimal difference. It was not until the 90's in which the U.S. Squash stopped being a sport ball "hard" to become a ball game "soft".

In 1920 it conducted the first Professional Squash World Championship in England, where C.R. Read (Queens Club) beat W.B. Johnson (RAC Club).

The first squash court in Mexico was established in 1965, when Raul de Villafranca returned to Mexico after one of its business trips in Europe. This was located in the backyard of the family home and was an outdoor structure concrete floor with plastered walls. The game soon became popular among friends and colleagues who visited the family. Was Mr. de Villafranca who in the Olympic games 1968 (Mexico), invited the team players to play Squash Mexican Fronsquash at home. Carlos and Raul Sanchez soon became to the game.

  • A squash court is a rectangular box with four vertical walls of different heights: the front wall, side walls and rear wall. It has a level floor and a clear height above the court area.
  • Like the tennis, the squash is played in singles (singles) or doubles (double teams).
  • The game begins with a service. The player to serve first is decided by turning a racket. Then, the server continues serving until losing a rally, when the opponent becomes the server and there is "change of serve".
  • A rally consists of a service and a number of good returns. A player wins a rally if the opponent does not do a good service or return of the ball or if, before the player has made an attempt to hit the ball, the ball touches the opponent (including racket or clothing) when the opponent is the non-striker.
  • The player who wins the preceding game serves first in the next game.
  • A return is good if the ball, before it has bounced twice on the floor, is returned correctly by the striker onto the front wall above the tin and below the outline, without first touching the floor. The ball may hit the side walls and / or the back wall before reaching the front wall.
  • If a player hits the ball and this, before reaching the front wall, hits the opponent or the opponent's racket or clothing, the game stops.
  • When it is their turn to play the ball, a player is allowed to play without interference from the opponent. To avoid interference, the opponent must try to give the player unobstructed direct access to the ball, a clear view of the ball, space to complete a swing and freedom to play the ball to any part of the fronton.
  • A let is an undecided rally. The rally does not count and the server serves again from the same box.
  • Play is expected to be continuous in each game once a player has started serving. There should be no delay between the end of one rally and the beginning of next.
