The art of overcome the performance of the opponents in speed, it has been created different tests of running, these are carried out at different distances, individual or in teams, with obstacles and without them, always competing for the best time, being Olympic Games the meeting point of the world's fastest athletes.

Fencing tests are speed races in which competitors must pass a series of ten obstacles of wood and metal (or plastic and metal) called fences, the tests of outdoor billboards more popular for men and women, are 110mts hurdles (called high fences), the 400m hurdles (intermediate hurdles) and the 200m hurdles (low hurdles). The races which cover between 600 and 3,000 meters are known as middle-distance races or middle distance. The most popular are the 800, 1,500 and 3,000 meters. The races whose distance is over 3,000 m are called background tests or long distance. These races are very popular in Europe where races are frequently held in 5,000 and 10,000 meters.

The race on foot was the most practiced exercise by Greek athletes, who at the age of 12 years began their preparation in racing or in the gym.   • In all races held on lanes, each rider must be maintained from start to finish in the lane that was assigned to. This applies to any section of a race by lanes.
  • If the referee is convinced by the report of a judge or other authority, that a competitor has knowingly taken out of his lane, must disqualify him, but, if such action was not intentional, may at its discretion disqualify or not, that depends on the advantage obtained by the corridor.
  • If a competitor leaves runs or the career voluntarily, is not allowed to continue the race. In competitions on highway a participant may leave it with the permission and under the supervision of a judge, while leaving the route does not mean reducing the distance traveled.
  • In competences field as well as in decathlon and/or pentathlon the competitor may leave during the development of competition in the area immediately to the races with the permission granted and the accompaniment of a judge.
  • Unless there is prior approval of the referee, not any official member or any person within the area of the races, may indicate intermediate times to the participants.
  • It’s not allowed participants to use footwear containing a spring or analogue attachment, who’s sole with grooves or bulges, having a total thickness in excess of 13mm. The thickness of the heel should not exceed that of the sole in more than 6mm, with the exception of the hike tests in which is available use the shoes those which thickness of the heel exceeds that of the sole in not more than 13mm. To protect the heel of the effect of impact distance jump or triple jump, the competitor may increase the thickness of the block or introduce a pad inside the shoe so that the total thickness of the block and the pad does not exceed 25mm.
  • The sole and heel may have grooves or bumps and / or nails. The number of nails is limited to a maximum of six on the bottom and two on the heel. The portion of each nail protruding from the sole and the heel should not exceed 25mm in length and 4mm in diameter. Is allowed to use a cord on the instep.
  • When competition takes place in racing "all time", participants must comply with the arrangements of the organizers regarding to the length of the nails.
  • Participants cannot use any device, either inside or outside of the shoe, that increases the thickness of the sole above the permitted maximum of 13mm, or to provide the user any benefit would not get from the type of footwear described in the preceding paragraphs.
  • Each participant will go provided with two numbers visible on the chest and back. These numbers will be the same contained in the programs. If it’s used overlay dress (sweater) in the competition, will be on it in the same way. In the high jump and pole vault participants will wear number only in the back or chest. In cases to be used the photo-finish, the organizers may require runners to carry additional numbers attached to the side of his pants. No competitor can participate in a test without wearing their respective numbers.
  • In championships of zonal games or group, the dorsal or pectoral of the competitor may carry only the official name of the event (not exceeding 15 x 2.5cm) in addition to the effective number.
