You set the rhythm

The Jogging or footing is a popular non competitive sport that its practiced outdoor, does not require specific locations for practice, to do it you only need a regularly land, a considerable distance and encouraging landscape.

It consists of walking in a hurry on a continuous and uniform velocity controlling the breathing while maintaining the rhythm for a certain space of time. This type of walk is faster than walking but slower than racing. It’s a sport that can be used for both training and to preserve health.

Jogging improves physical fitness, strengthens joints and immune system, since it requires up to 70% of the body muscles work. It is considered the basis of any physical preparation.

Jogging is a recent practice, the name comes from the word "jog" commonly used to describe short and quick movements, that until the XVI century meant "leave quickly".

The English naturalist Richard Refferies, wrote the word "joggers" to refer to people that moved quickly. The term adapted to a form of exercise originated in England in the XVII century, this is captured in the novel "My Run Home" Rolf Boldrewood Australian author (1884), where you can find the phrase "your bedroom curtains were still drawn as I passed on my morning jog".

His practice as a sport spread until the XXth century when the New Zealand coach Arthur Lydiard, popularized the term "jogging". The idea of Jogging as organized physical activity, was released in a sports article of the newspaper New Zealand Herald in February 1962, in which were mentioned a group of athletes and sports enthusiasts who meet once a week for "exercise and socialize. "As they would be trotting, the newspaper suggested that the group be named "Auckland Joggers Club." The term "jogger" was left to name those who practiced the sport.

Jogging was brought to the U.S. by coach Bill Bowerman (co-founder of Nike), who visited his friend Lydiard in New Zealand (1962) and became familiar with the sport. After the acceptance it had on the American people, Bowerman devoted himself to writing several books about it.

Today is an exercise that is used as training for great athletes, also is a physical activity to stay healthy. It does not require a specific place so that makes it accessible to everyone. Plus it can be practiced by people of all ages, each defining their own pace.

  • Its technique allows to lift two feet in the air, is not as demanding as running.
  • Use appropriate clothing and shoes.
  • The jogging may have the risk to overload the area in the knees joints. If you have problems with this, you should seek another alternative.
  • Preheating before jogging, either walking or doing stretching exercises. Is recommended to activate the knees and ankles with rotating movements.
  • When jogging take a proper posture that is facing forward and stretching the back, keep your shoulders relaxed.
  • If you feel pain in the side (or horse pain) means your breath is being incorrectly, extend expiration phase with respect to the phase of inspiration. Also raise your arm aching side may help.
  • Although the sport can be done anywhere, choose preferably one with soft elastic surface (forests or grasslands), that will prevent harm of your joints.
  • Choose shoes that are appropriate for the area where you will trot. Please note that after running 10 km your knees receive approximately 6,500 steps with double or triple the actual weight, at the end they would have supported a weight of up to 750 tons.

  • It is recommended to start with a weekly 30-minute training program, 2 times a week and gradually increase the time from the third week.
