Combined events

For athletes made of iron

Consist of different test races, throws and jumps that take place in one or two consecutive days by the same athlete. Depending on the number of tests is the name assigned to it.


In the ancient games the most important test was the pentathlon which combined discus throw, the javelin, running, long jump and fight, this competition began in 708 BC and was introduced because the Spartans considered the other tests too soft for a rude warrior. So it was designed a competition for an athlete-soldier, as a test of elimination athletes who jumped more in length passed to the javelin test. The top four disputed the race, of which the first three went to throw; finally the two best initiate a wrestling match to determine the winner. The spirit of the soldier-athlete has remained in the modern pentathlon, while the athletic decathlon subjects the athletes a much harder effort, since they compete in ten races within two days, finishing with the 1,500 meters devastating dash.


  • The rules depends of the sports that are practiced, throws, jumps, races, etc. Find the sport you’re interest here

  • Pentathlon
    • The athlete must participate in 5 disciplines: shooting, fencing, swimming, horseback riding and cross country.
  • Heptathlon
    • -Outdoor Heptathlon: It consists of 7 tests performed on 2 consecutive days.
      1st. day 100m hurdles, high jump, shot put, 200m dash.
      2nd day long jump, javelin, 800m dash.

      -Indoor Heptathlon: 1st. day 60m dash, long jump, shot put, high jump.
      2nd day 60m hurdles, pole vault, 1,000 m race.
  • Triathlon
    • Only 3 tests: Swimming, cycling and running.
  • Decathlon
    • There are 10 competencies on 2 consecutive days.
      For males: 1st day, 100m dash, long jump, shot put, high jump, 400mdash. 2nd day, 110m hurdles, discus throw, pole vault, javelin, 1,500m dash.
      For females: 1st day, 100m dash, pole vault, javelin, 400m dash. 2nd day, 100m dash, long jump, shot put, high jump, 1,500m race.
