Is formed one team with 11 offensive players and plays against 11defensive other team, the attacking team tries to get the ball through the run or the pass, towards the end zone and score points as well the defense has to prevent this to happen and try to prevent the advance of the opposing team to score, a touchdown is worth 6 points as primary objective and a field goal is worth 3 points.


In the year 1876 in Springfield, Massachusetts, Walter Camp, Football creator and who wrote the rules, also called the father of American football, among other things, invented the system of Down by which progress should maintain a specific yards for keep possession of the ball. In 1888 he introduced one of the most important rules, which is to take the player around the waist to tackle him which made of American Football a sport more violent. For this rule and the game itself was about to be prohibited by the year 1906, as during the previous season there had been some 20 deaths and 160 injured.


  • It is played on a field that is 57 yards wide and 120 long (one yard = 0.914 meters). Of which 20 are called "End zones" or "mark areas" (10 at each end). The End Zones are defined by the Goal Line and Finish Line.
  • Each team will take into field 11 players. Whoever has the ball will be the team to attack, while the other will be responsible to defend.
  • The objective is to cross with the peculiar ball opposite goal line. This action is called Touchdown and amounts to 6 points.
  • The team scoring a touchdown will have an additional play to 3 yards of the enemy Goal Line, where it can score an "extra point" (1 point), this throwing the ball through the uprights of the opponent's goal by a kick, or an "extra game" (2 points), if is done again the move of crossing the goal line of the defending team.
  • Other ways to score are:
    Performing a field goal (field goal worth 5 points): is obtained with kick the ball and make passes between the contrary goal posts made at any time of the game.
    With a "Safety" (2 points): It gets it from the defense when a player stops the attacking team inside the end zone of the last mentioned.
  • In American Football there are two types of moves: KICK OFFS AND DOWNS. A "kick off" is done only at the beginning of the meeting, early in the second half and after a touchdown. In a Kick Off team throw the ball and the other, after catch it, move forward with it until the player carrying the ball is stopped or leaving the field. A DOWN will take place in 95% of cases, this will begin with a SNAP and ends when the player carrying the ball is thrown or leave the field. It is called "Snap" to the action of turning the ball back by an attacker to a teammate, this is done only at the beginning of a play.
  • The attack offers 4 downs to go 10 yards and and move with the ball. These are marked by a chain to be placed on the opposite side of the main grandstand of the stadium.
  • If the attacking team (in any of 4 downs), crosses or reaches the far end of the chain will get a new "first down" (4 more chances to go 10 yards). Otherwise the ball will go to the other team.
  • To attack in this game are used "passes" and "races." The defense moves are conservative, while the Pass ones are risky as well devastating and for many represent the show in American Football. Success in the attack lies in making the move that the opponent does not expect, cheating the defense.
